Free Coffee Friday in Elkridge

Looking for a great way to kickstart your Friday morning?

McDonald's restaurants will be giving away free 12-ounce coffees every day from Sept. 23 through Sept. 29. No purchase is necessary, and coffee will be available in the drive-through and restaurants.

On Friday, Sept. 28, 7-Eleven is giving out free large coffees from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In what the chain has dubbed the 7-Election, customers have a choice of a red cup to show support for Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney or a blue cup to show support for President Barack Obama. The results of the 7-Election will be posted on the company's website.

Many places are offering free coffee in advance of National Coffee Day on Sept. 29, when coffee fiends can rejoice and celebrate their beloved coffee bean.

Coffee was first brought to America in the mid-1600s in a shipment en route to “New Amsterdam,” now known as New York, according to the National Coffee Association. We have that shipment and the Boston Tea Party to thank for turning the nation into coffee drinkers.

Elkridge Patch readers said the best cup of coffee around was at Dunkin' Donuts and Green Valley Marketplace in our 2012 Readers' Choice competition.
