It's been 2years and a day since our house fire

I just watched a video of a firefighter stopping traffic, getting out of his truck and helping an old lady across a very snowy street in New Hampshire. The firefighters weren't heading to any emergency. It got me thinking about my firefighters...yes this is about my fire...Every fire fighter that I had contact with, first asked if there were any animals trapped in the house (they already knew the people were out an safe). Each and every one told me how sorry they were and what could they do for me. One firefighter emerged from the bedroom that suddenly had a door to the outside in it, carrying a jewelry box. He opened it, and carefully looked through it before setting it aside. I have no doubt that if he had found something expesiive it would have been put into my hands. They went about their work with determination and efficiency but what really placed them securely in my heart was when they rescued my miniature orange tree. We were told we could take nothing from the house till the investigation was done but the orange tree had been bought on our honeymoon and was 40 years old. As I explained this to the firefighter who looked to be about 12, which I know he wasn't, his firefighter face suddenly softened and before I knew it, there was my tree that had been hanging halfway out of the remains of the front window and surely would have frozen in that very dark, very cold February night. And later when rescue squad and paramedics turned up for the elderly next door neighbor, we were asked how did we like our rebuilt home, that the contractors did a good job and they were glad we had stayed in the neighborhood. Firefighters automatically show up with the paramedics, even when there was nothing to do. And while I am praising the firefighters, I must give kudos to the two officers who showed up.. who asked about the people in the home and the animals and did us such a kind favor that they too found a place in my heart. May all of them always keep safe and healthy.
