Armed Robbers Strike Outside Elkridge Motels

Two armed robberies have occurred outside Elkridge motels in the past week, and police said they are investigating whether they are connected.

Both robberies occurred outdoors in the early morning hours between the 6100 and 6200 blocks of Washington Boulevard.

At approximately 1 a.m. on June 6, two people were robbed at gunpoint outside a motel room on the 6200 block of Washington Boulevard in Elkridge, said police. After demanding valuables and presenting a gun, two men stole an mp3 player, cell phone, purse and bag containing clothing, according to police. The suspects escaped to their getaway car waiting on northbound Route 1.

At approximately 3 a.m. on June 1, an individual was robbed at gunpoint in a motel parking lot on the 6100 block of Washington Boulevard in Elkridge, said police. Two men displayed a gun then stole the victim’s cell phone, jewelry and car keys. Police reported that the suspects fled on foot toward Bonnie View Lane.

“Detectives are investigating similarities between these two robberies,” said Elizabeth Schroen, spokeswoman for the Howard County Police Department. “Both occurred in motel parking lots in the same geographic area, and the suspect descriptions are similar.”

Police described the suspects in the Monday morning (June 6) robbery as black males who have gold teeth and weigh approximately 170 pounds. One was about 5’10” in height with a tattoo near his eye, and he was wearing a dark shirt and jeans. The other suspect was about 6’4” tall.

The Wednesday morning (June 1) robbers were described as follows: One was a black male about 6’ tall, of medium build, wearing a blue polo shirt and blue jeans; the other suspect was a black male about 6’ tall, of medium build, and wearing a white T-shirt.

“Police remind residents to be aware of their surroundings and vigilant,” said Schroen. She offered these tips for staying safe:

  • Park in a visible, well-lighted location
  • Survey the area before exiting your car
  • Eliminate distractions by putting away your cell phone or mp3 player when walking in parking lots or other secluded areas
  • Keep your car keys in hand so you can quickly enter and exit your vehicle
  • Report suspicious people or circumstances by calling 9-1-1
