Attempted Burglary in Elkridge: Crime Roundup

Residential burglary attempt

Someone tried to remove a screen from a window on the 7100 block of Water Oak Road on Nov. 11 at about 9:20 p.m., according to police.

Ellicott City

Attempted street robbery

According to police, girl was sitting on the steps in front of her apartment on the 8700 block of Town and Country Boulevard on Nov. 11 at about 12:40 a.m. when two males who she didn’t know approached her. One of them had his face covered; he displayed a knife, according to police, and told her to empty her pockets. Police say that’s when the victim ran inside and called police.

The two suspects are described as:

  • White man, wearing a ski-type mask, a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans; he showed a black knife
  • White man, wearing a red bandanna over his face, a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans 

Residential Burglary

Also on the 8700 block of Town and Country Boulevard, on Nov. 11 at about 8:20 p.m., two men entered a vacant apartment through an unlocked back door, according to police. When officers arrived, the apartment was empty. Police said there was evidence of drug use in the apartment.

Sometime between late the night of Nov. 10 and 6 a.m. the next day, police say someone entered an open a garage on the 2800 block of Brian Court and stole two GPS units and a rechargeable grill.

Columbia

Commercial Robbery 

An employee cleaning up after closing at Zips Dry Cleaners on Nov. 9 at about 9:30 p.m. was returning to the store after taking the trash out when he was confronted by a masked, armed man, according to police. The man brought him to the office where another employee was being detained by a second armed, masked man, according to police.

The burglars tied the two men up with sip ties, took their wallets and two cash boxes from the store, according to police. One of the wallets was found near Broken Land Parkway and Snowden River Parkway.

The two suspects are described as:

  • Black male, 5’10” to 6’, heavy build, wearing a black ski mask with dreads showing and a bright orange jacket 
  • Black male, 5’ 4” to 5’ 6”, thin build, wearing a black ski mask and black jacket

Commercial burglary

Someone shattered a front window at Tristate Collision Center, o the 8900 block of McGaw Road at about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, according to police. Reported stolen was 10 spools of copper wire – about 3,000 feet in length. 

Residential Burglary

A resident of a home on the 6300 block of Daring Prince Way knew something was wrong after hearing footsteps in the kitchen at about 4:25 a.m. on Nov. 9 because, according to police, no one in the family wears shoes in the house. The victim went to the bottom of the stairs and saw a flashlight shining in the kitchen, according to police, and heard more footsteps. He used his cell phone to call the house phone and the burglar left. The victim told police that the overhead garage door had been open all night.

A woman was in her car, parked in the garage on the 6200 block of Audubon Drive on Nov. 12 at about 2 p.m. when she saw two people standing in the garage, according to police. An officer found the two juveniles – they were arrested and released to their parents.

Laurel

Residential burglary

An 81-year-old woman called police reporting moaning coming from the first floor of her home on the 10600 block of Graeloch Road on Nov. 12 at about 10 p.m.  She told police that when she went to investigate the noise, she found the interior garage door and a back sliding door were open. Police said the light bulbs to the motion-detection lights in the driveway had been unscrewed.

The cabinet and medicine cabinet doors were opened, according to police, and someone had entered the garage, but fled when the victim yelled out.

The victim told police that 20 – 30 minutes earlier, someone rang her doorbell, but she didn’t answer. Nothing was reported stolen.

A homeowner saw three people trying to open the back sliding glass door at a home on the 9300 block of Canterbury Riding on Nov. 9 at about 9:50 p.m. according to police. The three fled before the victim could get a good look, according to police.

Someone took ka bicycle from the garage of a home on the 8500 block of Light Moon Way sometime between Nov. 8 and Nov. 10 according to police; the door had been left open.

A woman returned home to the 9400 block of Woodsong Court on Nov. 12 and found her PS3 missing, according to police.
