HCC Bomb Threat Traced to Student

Police arrested Sharonmarie Michelle Webb on Thursday.

Sharonmarie Michelle Webb, 29, of Baltimore, was charged in an incident that forced Howard Community College (HCC) to evacuate buildings Thursday for investigation.

Webb, a student at the college, was charged on June 8 with making a false statement about a destructive device, disturbing the operation of the school and threatening arson.

A campus-wide evacuation occurred after the alleged bomb threat was called into the college at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to school officials.

The call was traced directly to Webb's cell phone, said police, and video footage from campus security showed her alone in her vehicle in the HCC parking lot at the time the call was being made.

At 10:30 a.m., students were allowed to re-enter buildings after Howard County police did a sweep of the campus and determined the threat was false, according to a message posted on the HCC  Facebook page.

HCC officials will go through a judicial process before they determine any type of disciplinary action to take against Webb, according to HCC spokesperson Mike Scrivener.

Scrivener said the school is in its second week of summer sessions.

Webb has a preliminary hearing date of July 6 in Howard County District Court.
