A Columbia man has been charged with carjacking, robbery, assault and motor vehicle theft in connection with an incident at Arundel Mills Friday night, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said.

Police said Isaiah Perry, 29, of the 5600 block of High Tor Hill in Columbia, asked a woman for money as she was standing next to her vehicle in the 7000 block of Arundel Mills Circle—and when she said she didn't have any, he pushed her inside the car.

A struggle ensued and the woman was able to get out of the vehicle, according to the report. The suspect drove off in her car, which was equipped with a LoJack tracking device, police said.

At approximately 10 p.m., the victim—a 36-year-old woman from Glen Burnie—called police, who partnered with mall security to identify the suspect using surveillance footage, according to the report.

Officials from the Howard County Police Department helped find the vehicle, and police from Anne Arundel and Howard arrested Perry at his home without incident, the report stated.

"This case highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement partnerships and state-of-the-art security and surveillance," Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis said.

Davis added: "This is yet another quick case closure as well as a notice to bad guys that we work together to come after you quickly if you commit crime in Anne Arundel County."

Cassie, go take a look at this web site about crime in Howard County and notice where the majority of the crime is taking place. http://spotcrime.com/md/howard+county Again, I remind you that the whole of Howard County owes its AAA+ bond rating to the large amount of people in the western section of the county who are extremely wealthy. http://spotcrime.com/md/howard+county

Brook: You admitted above that you haven't researched the issue, but you're quick with the knee-jerk reaction against my claim that Obama and Democrats get MUCH more % votes of poor people on food stamps. Staggering. And we don't have an employer or professor relationship, so I'm not going to cite the sources -- you always want to bash the sources anyway. But to find the sources that say Obama won HUGE for incomes under $50k, and MORE huge under $30k and MORE huge for incomes under $20k.....and those are the peeps getting food stamps by the way.....just google: 2012 election results by income. You'll see hundreds of articles/stats, some more helpful than others. Perhaps the most staggering is the BIG CITIES by income, where poor people in big cities vote for Obama by 80% to 20% and food stamp usage is ENORMOUS in big cities. So google, read up, and connect the dots. If you were my boss or professor, I'd produce 5 or 10 articles/stats, but again, you're not. By the way, the other tactic of Dems is to demonize Repubs for proposing to even SLIGHTLY reduce some the welfare state. That's what we (Repubs) want to do......start ramping it down slowly but surely to get SOME fiscal discipline in the bloated federal spending. But the Democrats make that out to be the end of the world to poor people, un- and under-employeds. And the Democrats want MORE poor voters, they want to legalize the 15million illegals and get their votes. Brook, once again this is not rocket-science. Start researching yourself. And re-read my posting from 6:29pm yesterday -- it should shock you -- and it's all true.
Brook Hubbard March 02, 2014 at 12:39 PM
I was never quick with any knee-jerk reaction. You made a claim that I was not sure was valid, and I asked you for proof. I'm not sure how asking for proof equates to an emotional, oversensitive response. That being said, I'm looking up the search you stated now...
Brook Hubbard March 02, 2014 at 01:01 PM
I did the search as you requested and you are correct, those are some interesting numbers. I still question your conclusions, though, as you have to avoid assuming correlation equals causation. Why is it that 57% of the middle class and 63% of the working class (or lower) supported Obama? Certainly there are a variety of reasons and we should avoid jumping the gun on why that is. ********** We could assume the worst and state that these people are "lazy" and want to live off the government teat. Of course, we have no evidence of this but our own presumptions about what goes through the mind of someone in these categories. You could also say it's because the Republicans are often associated with the wealthy, upper class, 1%ers, and corporations. After all, they supported Romney by similar margins, probably because his stances benefited them. ********** Perhaps there are other factors at play, like that most people in these categories work in urban areas? There are far more job opportunities for those income ranges, thus middle- and working-class individuals may gravitate toward cities. If urban areas primarily vote Democrat, then it would make sense that more people of those income bands would be included in that. ********** Maybe it's the struggle for equality by many minorities? There are still problems faced by women, African-Americans, and Hispanics in todays workforce. Many are limited in their achievment by a number of factors, and thus are stuck in middle- or working-class positions. As these groups tend to vote Democrat, and most are in those income bands, wouldn't it make sense that the numbers would match above? ********** I concur that the data shows more individuals likely to participate in SNAP are also likely to vote Democrat. I don't concur with your conclusion that this means that Democrats are lazy and want the government to create handouts. That implies a sinister and generalized motive, which would be no different than claiming that all Republicans are a bunch of racists that want an ethnic homogeneity run by a theocracy. I no more could believe that of my Republican friends than I could of my Democrat ones.
Brook Hubbard March 02, 2014 at 01:09 PM
"That's what we (Repubs) want to do......start ramping it down slowly but surely to get SOME fiscal discipline in the bloated federal spending." I wouldn't mind seeing some stricter controls on government assistance programs. I've long been an advocate for removal of assistance for households that are associated with crime or disruption of neighborhoods. I'd also like upgrading of the system and personnel responsible for investigating accounts for possible fraud, such as the families that report multiple children that don't exist. ********** However, I don't think these are the only areas that should be cut when there are other ways to balance the budget. One would be to start looking at the holes in the DoD, who have been notorious for losing billions on their own books. I'd also question the need for expensive and unnecessary equipment like the F-35 while cutting already proven programs like the A-10. ******** In contrast to cuts, I support removal of tax loopholes allowing corporations to pay less taxes than the very people that work for them. I don't necessarily agree whether they should pay more (or at least much more), but I'm not completely opposed to a flat tax. I would also like more transparency on tax funding, so we could see ~precisely~ where it goes, rather than lining the pockets of career politicians and their expensive activities. ********* In the end, I have no problem with fiscal discipline, but disagree when one area is targeted heavily over another, especially when there is plenty of fat to cut all around.
JaySmith March 02, 2014 at 05:19 PM
My gosh Brook you're so right, such a struggle for survival and jobs for low-paids and no-paids, esp in cities. It saddens me gravely that things are 'stuck'. But I don't think at all that those folks are lazy. They've just been let down by govt to take what govt gives them and govt has failed in SO many other ways. If federal govt has allowed 15M illegals to take entry-level low-wage jobs......then they've come across the borders and taken the jobs like their life depends on it. And they'll take any wage $7/hr or less if min wage was less. They've flooded the workforce, many businesses love that, cheap labor, the supply of cheap labor is infinite when our borders aren't secure. Then along with that govt irresponsibility....you have govt giving our able-bodied citizens SNAP, Obama-phones with 180 free minutes a month every month forever, and bonus time for referring others....and Sec 8 housing, and medicaid, and free lunch program for children in schools, and less if there's a father working in the house. Govt has changed human nature for scores of millions of our citizens......all in the name of 'helping'. How sad. Brook, I went to Chicago last summer for HS reunion and the city and most of the surroundings is destitute. It's like a war-zone, ruined by govt excess, govt overpaid unions, and WAY excessive taxation. My suburb has 'For Sale' signs everywhere and people can't sell their houses cuz the prop taxes are too high. Govt has gone wild and SO many people don't even realize it. Govt union-jobs are the prize jobs. How sad. And the private sector that has to support all that.....is suffering, drying up, or leaving. Democrats control Chicago and most of Illinois and its becoming a wasteland. Sure I'm exaggerating a bit, but it is BAD. Chicago will end up like Detroit in a few years, the govt-ee-union negotiated pension and health-care plans, not to mention salaries.....are unaffordable. Chicago has the highest sales tax in the nation..11%. Pack of cigarettes is $10. What a cruel joke for the poor inner-city residents who still smoke. It's really sad. I feel sorry for the voters who felt their only chance was to keep voting 'D' to keep the handouts coming. I love Ben Carson's idea of flat-tax (you mentioned it too). He said it right in front of Obama and it was so simple and straightforward......he said THEN EVERYONE would be annoyed if taxes were too high, and EVERYONE would care to make govt more reasonably smaller. I LOVE Ben Carson. Did you listen to his 28-minute speech in front of Obama, Michelle and Joe Biden from January '13 at the National Prayer Breakfast? It might have been the most beautiful speech I've heard in years. The man is a national treasure, Baltimore treasure but grew up in Detroit. What a story, what a speech. Listen to it Brook, if you haven't, just google it and get the whole 28 minutes, perfect video of it. Boy does Obama squirm, Carson is just so damn sensible, smart, knowledgable......the whole package! Gotta go, great ideas you have too, your two posts. But be careful of anything that raises taxes for anyone or any corporation. Taxes are already ginormous, and remember, companies don't pay taxes, their customers do, every tax they pay comes in by revenue and price-tag paid by customer. Cheerio......more later if you listen to Ben Carson's speech, you might love it !
JaySmith March 02, 2014 at 05:54 PM
I'll post it here. I'm not a religious person at all, but this speech gives me the chills; I love this man so much, his life story and most of all his ideas. A sad footnote is the IRS targeted him after this speech. I'm sure he has nothing to hide but his tax-returns are probably not simple with his non-profit he and his wife started many years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpiryahOspY

Jay - Dr. Ben Carson is a man of extreme intelligence, high moral character and he is a caring man. If only the black community would see him for who and what he is. He is one of the most amazing people and he is humble too. Hard qualities to find in a person, especially a world renown surgeon. Came from poverty and made more than something of his life, and the lives of all he has helped. I'm with you, I love this man.
JaySmith March 02, 2014 at 08:08 PM
Thank you Mary Ellen.......you're a soulmate to feel that way. And the demonization of Ben Carson by the NYTimes was utterly sick, distasteful, dishonest.......and predictable. The NYTimes has done more to hurt our country since the early 1930s than imaginable.
Brook Hubbard March 03, 2014 at 06:54 AM
Ben Carson has good fiscal and bureaucratic sense, but unfortunately socially and scientifically he's a century behind. He alienates a significant portion of the population with his fundamentalist viewpoints, no matter how right he may be about economics and government overreach. If we could find someone who is socially progressive while being fiscally conservative, they would win the Moderates in a heartbeat.
JaySmith March 03, 2014 at 07:50 AM
I don't know his social policies, but I don't think the federal govt should concentrate on that when the fiscal house is on fire. What social policies and "scientific" policies is he not up-to-date on?
Brook Hubbard March 03, 2014 at 08:43 AM
He's opposed to same-sex marriage as he believes that the fundamentalist Christian definition of the term is the only legitimate one. He also denies the concept of evolution as he claims it cannot explain cognition or morality. Certainly everyone is entitled to their religious beliefs, but you cannot dictate public policy based on said faith... particularly on such a diverse population and with a Constitution that explicitly prohibits said behavior. I agree that there are bigger immediate fish to fry, but you cannot ignore long-term repercussions simply because there are short-term issues. That's how you end up with government intrusion like DOMA, just to overturn it a decade later. Perhaps if some extremist factions weren't so focused on limiting others' rights (while claiming the government is intruding on theirs), we would be better poised to handle problems like the economy, welfare, immigration, etc.?
Roberto March 03, 2014 at 09:41 AM
Jay smith Is smarter than Obama he took harder classes then Obama he got better grades then Obama and he knows what's better for the country then Obama. I am sick and tired of people complaining about income redistribution and where there tax money goes. You dont get to choose where your tax money gets spent. get over it! republicans are the biggest hypocrites! They claim to be so patriotic and proud to be an American! But don't want to pay any taxes! Paying taxes is one of the most patriotic things an Americans can do! Notice he said dont raise taxes on corporations? Because they are not part of the problem huh jay smith? Its all the poor black peoples fault right? How much money does the government give in corporate welfare to big businesses? How about Walmart in my area not paying any property tax at all? But I pay property tax on my house? Huh jay? Oh I forgot.... It's all poor black people and obamas fault right jay? Typical older "American" male. Herman Cain supporter. 999 plan huh jay smith? Hahaha!
JaySmith March 03, 2014 at 10:13 AM
Brook: Why didn't Obama/Reid/Pelosi overturn DOMA in 2010 when for about 8 months they had veto-proof Senate and could have passed anything they wanted? Obama was a complete hypocrite on that, and he completely fooled his gay-voters, because in 2012 during the election he acted like he changed his mind and THEN talked about how unfair DOMA was. Just sayin, Obama was a complete hypocrite, he's a political animal and all he does is strategize and scheme to get the votes.
Brook Hubbard March 03, 2014 at 10:19 AM
I never said politicians weren't hypocritical. Often they refuse to take hard stances on things because it may put them at the hands of angry (often ignorant) constituents. It was obvious Obama was seeing which way the wind blew, and with polls showing a change in public opinion and the backing of the Supreme Court, he decided to admit his position. Cowardly, yes, but at least he did join forces with logic and critical thought on ~that~ issue.
Mary Ellen Cote March 03, 2014 at 10:21 AM
Brook - Dr. Carson is allowed to have different beliefs than you. If you can not dictate public policy based on religious belief, than you can not dictate public policy based on the lack of it either. That is the liberal idea of "my way is the only way and anyone who differs is a hypocrite. And you, Roberto, Paying taxes is not patriotic. Go back to the founding of America. Taxes for necessary things is fine, but we have enough social programs, government waste, studies and commissions that just eat the tax money alive. If it weren't for all the nonsense, we could certainly run this country much more effectively. But, the more the government reaps the more they want. Human nature. I am not a hypocrite. The thing that show a liberal is the name calling. You get over it. I would love to see your tax return and how much you give to charity on your own. I am thinking you may rely on government to spread your charity in the form of tax dollars. And you are right about this - government does give lots to "their corporate friends". Take the worthless bailouts of 2009. I don't think anyone is blaming the poor (regardless of their 'color') I give to the poor all the time and I never ask what color the person is who receives, but the government is corrupt, both parties, and Obama is to blame for where we are today. He has been in office for more than 5 years now and he can't keep blaming others for his failures. He is in this over his head. He just wasn't qualified for the job. And before you go off on a rampage, he is only half black and his color means nothing to me. His actions mean something to me.
JaySmith March 03, 2014 at 10:27 AM
Roberto: Right, right, right, and right ! Republicans are NOT hypocrites, I am not a hypocrite, I am not expecting to pay NO taxes. But I think 50% in total is too much. I think 30% in total should be the max, something like that. That's not exactly equal to zero ! And NO it's not poor black peoples' fault! Where the heck did you come up with that? I basically said the OPPOSITE. And the answer is "zero" to your question of how much 'corporate welfare does the govt give corporations?" WalMart and its employees pay HUGE amount of taxes, and Roberto, in Econ 101 we learn that when corporations pay taxes, the CUSTOMERS are really the ones paying because that's what produces the revenue. For example, the oil companies. When YOU buy a gallon of gas for nearly $4.00, YOU are the one paying the $0.60 of state and federal gas tax, and YOU are paying for the 9% Exxon/Mobil profit margin, and ExxonMobil pays corporate income/profit taxes out of the 9%, leaving net 6% profit for them which is about 25 cents.....do the math Roberto.......WE the consumers pay the corporate taxes. The govt taxing authorities make out like the bandits in this current rigged scheme....and it's rigged against the CUSTOMERS. Govt does not GIVE corporations money Roberto. Yea, I was a Herman Cain supporter, big time. Why do you put American in quotes? You're completely bizarre. Why don't you talk about your own ideas instead of idiotically slamming others. Let's hear yours.
Mary Ellen Cote March 03, 2014 at 10:34 AM
Jay, we are fighting a losing battle. They will never get it, never. However, if they were to have 50% or more of what they make taken, they too would be outraged. This leads me to believe they are making little and paying nothing. It is easy to be pro government when you are receiving your livelihood from the taxes that others pay. Hypocrite is a person like Joe Biden, millionaire who gave about $300 in three years to charity from his own pocket. American Hypocrites - the Clintons who donated used underwear to the Goodwill or Salvation Army of wherever they donated to. Really, Roberto, and Cassie, and Brooke? Do you not see the hypocrisy here? The longer a government can keep you enslaved monetarily, the longer they have your vote. Rise up and stop being the victim.
Mary Ellen Cote March 03, 2014 at 10:42 AM
Roberto, why wouldn't Jay be smarter than Obama, etc. We don't have O's transcripts of his grades. He refuses, because he can. And smart isn't necessarily based on formal education. Look at President Lincoln. If you really want to carry on a intelligent conversation, get your facts. Truth is based on facts, not feelings. Right now, in America, we have way too many people using their "feelings" as a appropriate argument for oh, so many social causes and ills. Facts, facts and more facts. I think that I must give up further discussion for Lent, so good luck to all and remember were this discussion started - about color and dread locks and Cassie's name calling.

Mary Ellen: I noticed the "line" from Joe Biden that Roberto used too !....that it's patriotic to pay ridiculous high taxes. Well 2 days ago, ole Joe was visiting Arizona on our dime of course, and talking to people with camera following him. He went up to a 20-something woman and started telling her about Obama-Care, she should be patriotic and do herself and her family a favor and sign up by 3/31, oh, he told her she'd probably get a subsidy the govt will help her pay. Then he walked away and the cameraman started talking to her, and she said "I didn't want to tell him but I'm Canadian on vacation here". Nice going Joe......being an idiot while we pay you handsomely to do nothing but vacation

To ALL: To learn SOMETHING (most people know NOTHING) about Obama's college years, search this on youtube. John Drew was my year -- class of '79 at Occidental College in L.A. County....and young Obama started as freshman 3 months after we graduated. John Drew ended up knowing Obama even though Drew was off to graduate school in New York. This is FASCINATING, thoughtful, informative and anyone interested in Obama's academic interests in college should watch this: Go to youtube and search: Dr. Drew on young obama's marxism 1 of 6. It's fascinating for many reasons, --many !

"If you can not dictate public policy based on religious belief, than you can not dictate public policy based on the lack of it either." ********** I'm not suggesting public policy based on a lack of faith, especially as you have no idea what my faith might (or might not) be. I said that you cannot make laws based on a religious belief nor can you make any that deny an individual their religious practice. Allowing consenting adults to become legally married is neither dictating public policy based on a singular faith (or lack thereof) nor is it denying others their religious rights. You are correct that it's a "liberal" idea, according to the philosophical and political science definition of the term, as it's a concept based on freedom, equality, and civil rights (which is what true liberalism supports). The concept of "My way is the only way and anyone who differs is a hypocrite" would be an authoritarian ideal rather than a liberal one.
Brook Hubbard March 03, 2014 at 11:48 AM
"Really, Roberto, and Cassie, and Brooke? Do you not see the hypocrisy here?" ********** What hypocrisy are you accusing me of not seeing? I'm not sure where I've ever supported hypocrisy from any side of an issue.
Mary Ellen Cote March 03, 2014 at 12:05 PM
Again, I am making comment, not accusing you of anything. We seem to have very different ideology and that is okay. I just asked a question. Please do not read into it more than there is.
JaySmith March 04, 2014 at 08:12 AM
Roberto: Again search at youtube for: Dr. Drew Obama's marxism 1 of 6. Takes 50 minutes to watch all 6, John Drew graduated Occidental when I did May '79, Obama started 4 months later and John ended up spending time with him several times. I think it's obvious that John Drew is 100% honest and thoughtful, describing everything. Very interested if you're interested in economics and the welfare state too.
Roberto March 05, 2014 at 10:11 AM
Mary Ellen joke.. I mean cote.. Stop comparing yourself to me. You have no idea how much I donate to charity or how much I paid in income taxes. I am sure it's more than you did. And who are you to decide who black people should see as a leader? Let me guess... Your typical republican... Against welfare and handouts.. Until you need them. Your pro life.... Until someone kills one of your loved ones... Then it's the death penalty...remember facts facts facts right Mary Ellen? Oh, I thought you were pro life??? So your against anything for everybody else. Until it it happens to you. Hypocrite..... Jay smith... Don't kid yourself... Top income tax rate is 39.6% before deductions. I know because I'm in it. if your paying 50% you need a new accountant and you really aren't smarter than Obama. But really jaysmart... I mean jay smith... Did you really think that god father pizza guy and the 9,9,9 tax plan would have worked? By the way I know a good accountant that can get your tax rate down. Maybe not as low as Herman Cain plan though. Funny huh?
Roberto March 05, 2014 at 11:36 AM
Jaysmith I liked you until you asked me to watch John drew videos. Marxist... Really? Drew never attended college with Obama and only met him 2 times which he admits himself. This guy is a cry baby that blames affirmative action ( basically black people) for his lousy adult life. Oh, and he's blaming Obama like every other republican. Why does it always come back to color with republicans? White Is the new black.... White people are always playing the race card and I am tired of it! Not directed at you jaysmith.
