Arundel Mills Double Homicide Suspect Killed in Shootout

The suspect in the murders at Arundel Mills, James Coleman, was killed after a shootout with police in Prince George's County, said officials.

The man who is believed to have shot and killed two people at Arundel Mills Mall late Friday was pronounced dead after a shootout with police Saturday morning, according to a Prince George's County spokeswoman.

The shooting, which left a man and a woman dead, was not a random act of violence, Anne Arundel County police said at a Saturday morning press conference. The incident occurred in the parking lot outside Dave and Buster's just before midnight Friday.

Based on a vehicle description provided by witnesses, investigators tracked the suspect—James Coleman, 22—to his parents’ District Heights home, according to ABC 7 News.

Double Homicide at Arundel Mills Not a 'Random Act,' Said Police

Anne Arundel County police said they have located a vehicle of interest in connection with the shooting.

The following was originally reported at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Police are investigating what they have said is a double homicide that occurred outside Arundel Mills Mall on Friday evening.

At 11:55 p.m. on Nov. 11, an off-duty police officer working in the mall was notified of a reported shooting, said Lt. Francis Tewey, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Police Department.

When the officer arrived in the parking lot outside Dave and Buster's, a male and female had been shot, said Tewey.

"Both were pronounced deceased at the scene," wrote the Anne Arundel County Police Department in a statement Saturday morning.

"At this time, there is no additional information available, except that the detectives do not believe this incident was a random act," said the statement.

From their preliminary investigation, homicide detectives "think there might be some association between the people," Tewey told Patch.

While he could not say whether any suspects have been identified or taken into custody, Tewey said homicide investigators are following active leads.

"We have a vehicle of interest that has been located," said Tewey, specifying that it was a silver or dark gray hybrid SUV.

According to the Associated Press, a man killed by police in Prince George's County Saturday morning after opening fire on an officer may be the suspect.
