Elkridge Junior Firefighters Take On Ocean City

The Juniors won a trophy during the Maryland State Firemen's Convention, and they weren't the only Elkridgean winners.

The 's Junior Firefighter Program won a trophy recently at the Maryland State Firemen's Convention in Ocean City.

Coming in first place in the junior/cadet group, the Elkridge Junior members surpassed their competitors in how well they marched together and how neat and orderly their appearance was, said Kellie Lehr, member of the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department. The Juniors are a group of 9- to 15-year-olds who learn emergency medical techniques and receive firefighter training at the firehouse. There were 18 Juniors in attendance for last week's festivities.

Also at the convention, the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department took away second place for its brush truck's appearance in the parade.

This was the 119th year for the meeting of the Maryland State Firemen's Association, which brings together emergency personnel from across the state. The convention took place June 18 to June 24 in Ocean City.
