Elkridge Man Not Charged in Pedestrian's Death

Police said the investigation is ongoing after a Ducketts Lane man's vehicle pinned Laurie Ann Smith, 39, against a wall near Route 40 and Rolling Road.


A Baltimore woman has died from injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle and pinned against a wall on Dec. 23, on the 6200-block of Baltimore National Pike, according to Baltimore County police.

Laurie Ann Smith, 39, of the 2500-block of West Pratt Street, was pronounced dead March 24 at University of Maryland Hospital, police said.

According to officials, just after 5 p.m. on Dec. 23, police responded to an incident in the 6200-block of Baltimore National Pike and Rolling Road.

The driver of a 2011 Honda Odyssey—identified as Andrew Dolbey, 42, of the 7100-block of Ducketts Lane in Elkridge—was traveling westbound on Rolling Road when he attempted to turn left onto Baltimore National Pike. The vehicle swerved across Baltimore National Pike, over a curb, then struck and pinned Smith against a wall, according to police.

Smith was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. She was pronounced dead just after 5 a.m. on March 24, according to officials. Her body was transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, police said.

The investigation found that Dolbey was at fault in the collision, police said.

The investigation of the Dec. 23 crash is ongoing, according to police. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash, police said.

Police spokesman Shawn Vinson said that no charges have been filed against Dolbey to date.
