Elkridge Storage Units Burglarized: Crime Roundup

Elkridge

Commercial burglary

Police say someone entered W.F. Wilson & Sons, on the 7500 block of Cemetery Lane, on May 23 between 8 and 9 p.m. The burglars got in through an unlocked gate, cut the locks and entered 11 storage units, according to police. They stole scrap copper from one of the units; nothing was reported stolen from others, although the burglars did enter them.

Residential burglary

Someone entered an open, attached garage on the 7000 block of Golden Crest on May 24 between 9 and 10:30 p.m. according to police. The burglars stole beer from the refrigerator as well as a canvas bag and a basketball.

Ellicott City

Robbery 

A woman was getting out of her vehicle on the 7700 block of Blueberry Hill Lane on May 28 at about 10:30 p.m. when a masked man pushed her to the ground and demanded money, according to police. The man stole her backpack which contained her wallet, cell phone and computer, police said, then he got into the passenger side of a dark sedan that drove off.

  • The robber is described as a 6-foot-1-inch tall, 200 pound black man. He was wearing a black mask, black t-shirt and jeans.

Commercial burglary 

An employee at Slack Funeral Home on the 3800 block of Old Columbia Pike said a silver car pulled into the back of the business at about 6:20 a.m. on May 28. The employee told police that he thought the driver was just going to turn around in the lot; instead, the vehicle had baked up to a detached garage. The employee confronted the driver, who said he was picking up equipment for a repair business, according to police. When the employee said he didn’t know anything about a scheduled pickup, the driver left. Later, a leaf blower, cordless tool set, gas cans and an air compressor were reported stolen from the garage. 

Someone called police from Epiphany Lutheran Church on the 9100 block of Sybert Drive to report a broken window sometime between May 19 and May 22. The caller thought it was an act of vandalism, but later determined the church had been burglarized. Two robes were reported stolen from the church office.

Sometime between 11 a.m. on May 27 and 7:30 a.m. the next day, someone pried open a construction trailer door on the 5000 block of Bending Sky Way and stole a power drill, shop saw and two shop vacuums, according to police.

Residential burglary

Police say that sometime between 11 p.m. on May 22 and 8 a.m. the next day, someone entered an unlocked garage on the 5700 block of Goldfinch Court and stole a leaf blower vacuum, power drill set and other items. The thief also stole sunglasses, movie tickets and change from an unlocked car, according to police. 

A burglar forcibly entered a garage on the 4100 block of Old Columbia Pike sometime between May 20 and May 25, according to police. A lawn mower and leaf blower were reported stolen.

A resident returned home to the 3200 block of Wheaten Way on May 25 to find her front door had been unlocked, according to police. Video games, a game console, instruments and DJ equipment were reported stolen.

Columbia

Robbery 

According to police, two men approached a man walking toward the front door of his home on the 6900 block of Deep Cup on May 26 at about 2:45 a.m. The men were carrying guns and had their faces covered, police said; they demanded money from the victim. They also stole his shoes and a gym bag with clothes, a cell phone and a wallet, according to police, then they ordered him to the ground and ran to a vehicle parked on Bendbough Court.

Police say an armed robber approached someone on the 9200 block of Berger Road on May 27 at about 10:15 p.m. The robber demanded the person’s wallet, car keys and phone. After going through the wallet, according to police, the robber returned everything except the phone, then ran down Berger Road toward Oakland Mills Road.

  • The robber is described as a 5-foot-10-inch, 160 pound black man wearing a black mask, tight black motorcycle jacket and black pants.

Five teenagers assaulted a juvenile on the footpath on the 7600 block of Woodpark Lane on May 28 at about 2:30 p.m., according to police. The teens stole the victim’s cell phone, then ran toward Rainflower Way. The victim had minor injuries to his face and arms.

Commercial burglary

Someone entered a building under construction on the 6800 block of Benjamin Franklin Drive between May 25 and May 28, according to police. The burglar entered through unlocked doors and stole copper wire.

Burglars used a rock to smash the front glass window of Carry Out Menu on the 6400 block of Dobbin Road sometime between the night of May 26 and the morning of May 28, according to police. A safe that had been bolted to the floor – and contained an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police – was reported stolen.

Residential burglary/attempted burglary

Police say someone broke a back window at a home on the 10500 block of Hickory Glen Drive on May 25 at about 2 p.m. Minor ransacking was reported in the bedroom.

On May 25 at about 3 p.m., someone entered a shed attached to a home on the 5300 block of Graywing Court. Nothing was reported stolen.

Police were called to the 6100 block of Quiet Times on May 25 at about 8:45 p.m. When they arrived, they found that the door was unlocked a back door was shattered at the home, which appeared to be abandoned. Police said there was no furniture in the home, which they think had been used as a party house.

Someone smashed a back door to a second floor apartment on the 8900 block of Tamar Drive sometime between 7 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. on May 26, according to police. A cell phone, jewelry and a pair of shoes were reported stolen. 

Someone tried to remove the deadbolt from the top lock of a home on the 8800 block of Tamebird Court sometime between May 26 and May 27, according to police. The bottom lock remained in place, however, and no one entered the home.

Jessup

Robbery

Police say two acquaintances met at a hotel room on the 8000 block of Washington Boulevard for consensual sex on May 25 just after midnight. When the victim arrived, however, there were already two people there. Both his acquaintance and the third person demanded money from the victim, according to police; they also took his cell phone and keys. After an investigation, police arrested a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both of Hyattsville, and charged them with robbery.

Commercial burglary

Someone cut and peeled back the fence at Victory Packaging on the 7600 block of Dorsey Run Road on May 25 between 12 and 1 a.m., according to police. The burglars drove a pickup truck – possibly with a tank in its bed – through the hole and stole about 300 gallons of diesel fuel.

Laurel

Commercial burglary attempt

When police arrived at Bottom of the Bay, on the 9500 block of North Laurel Road on May 28 to respond to a burglary alarm, officers saw the glass on the front door was cracked. The glass did not shatter, though, and police say no one entered the business.

Sykesville

Residential burglary

Police say someone entered an unlocked garage on the 1400 block of Route 97 on May 21. Miscellaneous items were reported stolen.

Highland

Residential burglary 

A woman returned home to the 7500 block of Browns Bridge Road on May 25 at about 1:15 p.m. and found the side door of her home had been kicked in, according to police. Someone she knew was inside the house – police arrested the 23-year-old Highland man and charged him with fourth-degree burglary.
