A single-family home on Grainger Court, off Huntshire Drive in Elkridge, caught fire Monday evening.

A single-family home off Huntshire Drive in Elkridge was engulfed in flames Monday night, according to Howard County Fire and Rescue officials. No one was injured, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

At approximately 9:12 p.m., a neighbor reported that there was a fire on the 6500 block of Grainger Court in Elkridge, said Howard County Fire Battalion Chief Gordon Wallace. By the time officials arrived, the two residents of the house had vacated the two-story home, which was consumed by flames.

As of 9:24 p.m., the fire was under control, reported Wallace. "The adjacent homes have also sustained minor damage as a result of the radiant heat," he wrote in an official statement. More than 40 fire department personnel were on the scene at 11 p.m. ensuring the structure was stable and the fire extinguished. Although officials believe gas was involved, Wallace said, they aren’t sure if that’s what started the blaze; the incident remains under investigation.
