Greater Elkridge Police Report: March 31–April 19

An Ellicott City shooting, Elkridge thefts and fatal car crash on Route 1 were among recent events.

As the temperatures rise, so too may the number of thefts, said Baltimore County police in a statement this week. A look at this installment of the greater Elkridge police report confirms that people are indeed trying to break into local businesses and homes.

To keep burglaries at bay, police advised businesses to consider using specific locks and additional lighting. They encouraged homeowners to lock doors and windows, plus be advised that it's scam artist season. Case in point: Howard County Executive Ken Ulman warned residents last week that a after it solicited residents in Hanover. 

Tuesday, April 19
A rear window was broken at in Elkridge at 1:30 a.m., said police, who reported nothing was stolen.

Monday, April 18
A 19-year-old Columbia man was shot while visiting a friend in Ellicott City at approximately 11 p.m., said police. The victim is in critical condition and the suspect is at large, according to officials, who are offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

Copper and water meter were stolen and a rear window broken at MDG Companies (7100 Montevideo Rd.) in Jessup, reported at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Copper wire was stolen and a retaining wall broken down at  in Elkridge, reported at 5:45 a.m.

Saturday, April 16
A 2010 red Ford Focus was stolen from the 6100 block of Washington Boulevard in Elkridge, reported at 7:45 a.m.

Friday, April 15
Howard County police arrested eight people in a on Route 1 in Laurel, according to a press release.

Tuesday, April 12
There was an attempted break-in at Troy Farms Liquors (6161 Meadowridge Rd.) in Elkridge, reported at 4:18 a.m. No entry was gained, according to police.

Monday, April 11
A after his vehicle struck an embankment, then crashed into a fence off Dorsey Mill Road at approximately 8:45 p.m., said police.

Copper wiring was stolen from the 8200 block of Patuxent Range Road in Savage, said police.

A Laurel man was arrested after police were called to  in Elkridge at approximately 2 a.m. for reports of someone throwing items over the fence. The suspect was found loading aluminum floor jacks into his vehicle, said police.

Sunday, April 10
Two trucks were stolen from Don's Paving (6000 block of Race Rd.) in Elkridge, reported at 7 a.m. Officials found the trucks in another jurisdiction, according to the report.

Saturday, April 9
During a in for missing teen Phylicia Barnes, in Ellicott City's Hilltop area. Maryland State Police are conducting an autopsy of the body, according to Baltimore City police, who led the search for Barnes.

Jewelry and firearms were stolen from a residence on the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Rd. in Jessup, said police, reported at approximately 8 a.m.

Thursday, April 7
 in Elkridge was burglarized after a hole was cut in the fence, reported at approximately 10 a.m.

Wednesday, April 6, 2011
An Odenton teen died as the result of a  at approximately 11 p.m.

Cash was stolen and the glass front door smashed at  in Elkridge, reported at 8 a.m.

Tuesday, April 5
Firearms, gaming consoles, a DVD player, TV and video games were stolen from a residence on the 8000 block of Paul Martin Drive in Elkridge after the suspect(s) broke in through a window, reported at 5 p.m.

A laptop and two cameras were stolen from a residence on the 6300 block of Lawyers Hill Road in Elkridge, reported at 1:45 p.m. Police said the home, which the burglar(s) entered after breaking a window lock, had been ransacked.

Monday, April 4
A man was severely at approximately 7 p.m. on the 1500 block of Matthews Town Road in Hanover, reported police.

The front-door lock of the Howard County Recreation and Parks building on the the 6500 block of Mansion Lane in Elkridge was broken and electrical box panels removed, said police, reported at 8 a.m.

A roll of copper was stolen and a fence cut at  in Elkridge, reported at 7:30 a.m. Police said that the copper was later found nearby.

Sunday, April 3
At approximately 8:30 p.m., three men were arrested after they were seen taking wood from a construction site on the 5900 block of Bonnie View Lane in Elkridge, said police.

A Howard County  and suspended after resisting arrest outside a Baltimore City bar.

Saturday, April 2
Two people were taken to shock trauma after a collision on Montgomery Road at Washington Boulevard in Elkridge, reported police. In the collision between a 2004 Honda Pilot and a 2003 Toyota Highlander, police said they cited the Honda’s driver, Jeana Marie Del Rosso, 40, of Ellicott City, for failing to yield.

Del Rosso was turning left out of the shopping center onto Montgomery Road when her vehicle was struck by the Highlander, whose driver La Gloria Annett Holland, 22, of Gywnn Oak, and passenger Francesca Yvette Bolilge, 54, were transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries, said police. Del Rosso was not injured nor were her two passengers, children ages 3 and 7. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, said police.

Catalytic converters, GPS and two jump packs were stolen from vehicles on the lot at  in Elkridge, said police. The theft occurred sometime between 6:45 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the report.
