Hanover Fire Damages Three-Story Townhouse

A fire official said active smoke alarms and sprinklers mitigated the damage to the home.

More than 70 firefighters were called to a house fire Friday night in Hanover.

Officials responded to the 7800 block of Crystal Brook Way in Anne Arundel County for the report of a three-story townhouse on fire.

Within 30 minutes, the two-alarm blaze was under control, with no injuries of either the homeowners or firefighters, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Battalion Chief Matthew Tobia.

"Two adults escaped because of functioning smoke alarms," Tobia said. "The home was also equipped with residential sprinklers which kept the fire from extending into the home itself."

The $350,000 townhouse was estimated to have sustained $80,000 in damage as a result of the fire, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Tobia said.
