Hanover Road Crash Damages a Transformer, Knocks Out Power

Howard County police have issued the following update on the incident.

Howard County police said a truck hit a telephone pole Tuesday night on Hanover Road, causing a portion of the road to be shut down while crews began repairs to restore electricity.

The incident occurred at 8:47 p.m. on Hanover Road, between Patuxent Quarter and Hanover Crossing roads.

Howard County police officials said there was no indication in police reports that a driver fled the scene of the collision or that there were any injuries.

Parts of the road were temporarily closed as BGE conducted repairs. The pole contained telephone, cable and electrical wires, police said.

BGE spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said about 150 customers lost power as a result of the incident; all were restored as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

That road needs speed bumps or cameras. Too many twist & turns for the drivers who want to drive 55mph and take up more than one lane.

I know that there has been a lot of concern regarding the speeds that some motorists drive on Hanover Road. The general thought is speed bumps or speed cameras or both. I believe that the solution could be four-way or three-way stop signs at several intersections along Hanover Road. This would better control speed and allow for safe access onto Hanover from those side streets without costing taxpayers the amounts of money and time to install numerous speed bumps. As for speed cameras. Who would actually want the speed camera flash going off all night in front of their house? I would not want to be that homeowner.
