Burglars went on a spree over the weekend, smashing glass storefronts and breaking into or attempting to break into six Howard County businesses, the Howard County Police Department said.
The businesses all had smashed glass doors when officers responded between 4:30 and 5:20 a.m. Saturday, police said. The suspect or suspects, who have not been arrested or identified, did not gain entry to all the buildings, police said.
The suspect or suspects took undisclosed amounts of cash from Gorman Cleaners, in the 8800 block of Gorman Road, and Paradise Nails & Spa, also in the same block. The suspect or suspects also took undisclosed valuables from Pro Nails & Spa in the 9900 block of Washington Boulevard.
Officers responding to one location searched the area and found the other businesses that had been burglarized, police said.
The suspect or suspects tried to break into the following businesses and were unsuccessful: 7-Star Convenience Store, in the 9000 block of Baltimore Street; 2 Go Convenience & Deli, in the 9000 block of Washington Boulevard; and Asian One Restaurant, in the 9900 block of Washington Boulevard.
Police officials encourage business owners to take measures to try to prevent burglaries.“We encourage people to make sure not to leave anything valuable out or to leave large amounts of money around, and to, of course, have an alarm system,” said Sherry Llewellyn, police spokeswoman.
