Howard County Police Will Conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint This Week

The checkpoint is one of several the county conducts throughout the year.

The Howard County Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the county sometime this week, according to a statement released by the department on Monday.

Officers in both marked and unmarked vehicles will be checking for drunk drivers, as well as those violating seatbelt and child safety seat laws.

Alcohol was a factor in 6 of 13 fatal collisions in 2010, according to officials, and more than 1,600 people were arrested in Howard County last year for driving under the influence or while intoxicated.
