Fire at Jessup Liquor Store Shut Down 175

Mel's Liquors was overtaken by flames Monday morning.

Firefighters from three counties fought to extinguish heavy flames at a Jessup liquor store Monday morning, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS).

More than 30 firefighters from Howard, Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties found thick smoke and flames after a truck driver reported a blaze at Mel's Liquors at 4:30 a.m. on Labor Day, said Jackie Cutler, spokeswoman for HCDFRS.

Nobody was injured in the fire, said Cutler.

MD Route 175 was closed for approximately two hours on Sept. 3 between Dorsey Run Road and Oceano Avenue as firefighters put out the blaze, according to HCDFRS. Howard County police directed traffic, and BGE cut off the power, said Cutler.

Firefighters were on site until 2:30 p.m. Monday ensuring the fireground was safe, said Cutler. She said a cause has not yet been determined.

A damage estimate was not yet available Monday afternoon, according to Cutler. On Monday evening, the store at 7915 MD Route 175 was boarded up and taped off.
