Police say someone entered the US Route 1 Flea Market on the 7500 block of Washington Boulevard on Dec. 16 between 2 and 4 a.m. using a knotted rope to drop down from the roof through a fan vent. Police say they do not know if anything was stolen.
Police said a man told an acquaintance that he could borrow a small sum of cash. When the acquaintance arrived at the man’s mobile home on the 6600 block of Pirch Way on Dec. 12 at about 3:30 p.m., the man pulled out a large sum of money from his pocket. At that point, according to police, the acquaintance pushed the man into the bathtub, assaulted him and took his money.
Residential burglary, attempt
Someone entered a detached garage on the 12400 block of Kondrup Drive between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15, according to police. The person rifled through two vehicles inside the garage as well as one in the driveway, according to police. Nothing was reported stolen.
A woman told police that her daughter reported missing some belongings from their home on the 4900 block of Lee Farm Court after having friends over in September. The daughter reported makeup, a gift card, an iPod charger and a house key missing. On Dec. 17 the girl reported items missing from her room again, though there were no signs of forced entry. Police determined that two neighbors, both juveniles, were responsible for the burglary and had used the key from the first burglary to break in in December. Except for the gift card, police said all of the property was returned. The victim did not want to press charges, police said. Parents said they would handle matters among themselves.
A resident returned home to the 4000 block of Font Hill Drive to find kitchen and night stand doors open, according to police, and a pillow case missing. The resident said that a basement slider door was cracked open. She left to go to a football game, according to police, and when she returned, told police that a basement window was open. The burglary occurred sometime between Dec. 14 and Dec 16, according to police.
According to police, someone stole a dirt bike from a detached garage on the 13400 block of Triadelphia Road on Dec. 16 at about 3:30 p.m.
Howard County Police say a man implied he had a gun when he walked into the Comfort Inn, on the 8800 block of Washington Boulevard on Dec. 14. It was just before 3 p.m., according to police, when the man approached the clerk at the counter and demanded money, implying he had a gun in his waistband. The clerk complied and the man ran away with the cash.
The suspect is described as: Black, male, about 6-foot-0 with an average build. He had a goatee with a thin “chin-strap” beard and was wearing a winter-style hat with tassels, black sunglasses, a gray hooded sweatshirt with dark stripes down the arms, khaki cargo pants, black gloves and brown shoes.
Street robbery/attempted robbery
Howard County Police say two men were leaving the Exxon store on Dec. 14 just after 8 p.m. when two men approached them and began punching them. The assailants tried to reach into the men’s pockets and take their money, police said. When the two victims ran to the back of the gas station, they encountered two additional men who began punching and throwing rocks at them, according to police. One of the victims had a cut on his lip, the other a broken nose, police said. Someone reported seeing the assailants near a deli where they split up in different directions.
Police responded to a late-reported robbery at the Harpers Farm Village Center on Dec. 15 just after 11:50 p.m. Police say the victim said he was riding his bike home from the mall when he was approached by males who attacked an punched him. The men ran away with the victim’s Nike Jordan shoes, according to police.
Residential burglary/attempted burglary
Police say someone entered a home on the 9400 bock of Dartmouth Road through an unlocked window on Dec. 15 sometime between 3:15 and 9:15 p.m., according to police. A computer, jewelry and a camera were reported stolen.
A resident of the 8700 block of Hayshed Lane was in his room at about 10:45 p.m. on Dec. 15 when he heard a crash from another room, according to police. The resident said he went to look and saw a male in the room wearing a black ski mask. The man ran out of the front door, the resident said.
Police say someone entered two storage units at a building on the 10300 block of Swift Stream Place sometime between Oct. 28 and Dec. 12. Someone went through some of the boxes in one of the units, police said, but nothing was reported stolen and there were no signs of forced entry. In the second unit, police said force was used and a television, tools, purses and gift cards were reported stolen.
Someone pried open the front door to a residence on the 6300 block of Tamar Drive on Dec. 14 between 6:20 and 9 p.m., according to police, and stole an iPad, camera and change.
Police say someone kicked in a back door to a home on the 9600 block of Morning Leap Terrace on Dec. 13 between 9:45 and 11:45 a.m. Jewelry was reported stolen.
Someone tried, unsuccessfully, to pry open a rear basement window at a home on the 11000 block of Willow Bottom Drive on Dec. 15, according to police.
Police say someone entered a vacant house on the 14900 block of Bushy Park Road sometime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 13. There were no signs of forced entry and, according to police, someone ripped copper piping off the walls.
Vehicle thefts/attempts county-wide
Police say the ignition of a 2012 silver Nessan Sentra was damaged after sometone tried to steal it from the 10300 block of Swift Stream Place at about 8:40 a.m. on Dec. 14.
A rental car was stolen from the 11200 block of Scaggsville Road, according to police. The car was a 2012 Mazda hatchback in red and beige with the license plate IL L248400.
Police say the steering column was broken off of a vehicle on Dec. 14 at about 11 a.m. on the 12300 block of Swift Stream Place.
Police say a silver Mercury Sable with the license plate MD 5AS5620 was stolen from the 11200 block of Peartree Way sometime between Dec. 12 and Dec. 14.
Police say a 2004 Honda Accord, black, with the license plate 2AP0441 was stolen from the 8900 block of River Island Drive on Oct. 16.
A 2004 Nissan Altima was stolen, according to Howard County Police, sometime between Dec. 9 and about 9 a.m. Dec. 10. The car, a Nissan Ultima, has a license plate MD 4FHA78
