Live Wire Causes Brush Fire, Blocks Traffic on Hanover Road

Firefighters put out the blaze while police directed traffic.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Thursday, emergency personnel received word that a small brush fire had broken out along Hanover Road near Anderson Avenue, said police.

"Wires in the trees started the fire, which spread to the grass," said the police dispatch center, where officials claim 200 square feet of brush had caught fire. No one was injured and the flames weren't close to any houses, said police.

While firefighters put out the blaze, police closed off Hanover Road between Anderson Avenue and Skipton Drive. It remained closed as of 8:45 p.m. while BGE crews attended to the power lines.
