Montevideo Road Warehouse Evacuated After Gas Leak

Six fire crews and an air boat came to the rescue when a gas line was struck Thursday afternoon.

A gas leak forced the evacuation of employees from a warehouse on Montevideo Road Thursday afternoon, said officials.

"It was an inside line that was struck," said Rachael Lighty, spokeswoman for BGE.

The incident on the 7500 block of Montevideo Road was reported at 12:45 p.m., said Jackie Cutler, spokeswoman for Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

According to Cutler, employees had already evacuated by the time rescue personnel arrived.

"We responded with about six units, plus a mutual aid air boat from Montgomery County," said Cutler.

The air boat, she explained, was for ventilation purposes.

There were no injuries as a result of the gas leak, said Cutler.

"We were able to turn the gas off by 1:30 p.m. to make conditions safe at the warehouse," said Lighty.

By 3 p.m., the fire department reported all units had cleared the scene.
