Route 1 Crash in Jessup Sends Odenton Man to Shock Trauma

A man was taken to shock trauma Wednesday evening after a two-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Jessup left him in serious condition, said officials.

Cornell Derrell Gray Jr., 19, of Odenton, was pulling out of Crazy Ray's (8125 Washington Blvd.) at approximately 11:25 p.m. when his 1999 Nissan Maxima collided with a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro headed northbound on Route 1, said police.

According to Howard County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Eric Proctor, three people were trapped in the vehicles, requiring emergency personnel's assistance getting out. Washington Boulevard was shut down in both directions to clear the scene between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m., said officials.

In the Camaro, driver Tristian Rayshon Johnson, 25, of Springdale, and passenger Katherine Lynn Nguyen, 26, of Falls Church, VA, were uninjured and refused medical treatment.

Gray was in "quite serious" condition Wednesday night, said Proctor, and as of Thursday morning Gray "remains in serious condition," police said in a statement.

According to preliminary reports, Gray failed to yield right of way to the Camaro and "alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the collision," said police in a statement Thursday morning.
