Sexual Assault in Elkridge Shopping Center

Police are asking for help identifying the suspect.

Howard County Police are asking for help identifying a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault at Gateway Overlook in Elkridge.

According to police spokesperson Mary Phelan, a woman was walking to her car in the Best Buy parking lot on May 23 at about 11:30 a.m. when a man approached her from behind.  As the woman got into her ca the man reached under her dress and grabbed her, according to police.

The woman screamed and the man walked away.

The woman followed the man and saw him get into a white, four-door pickup truck. Police say it may have been a Dodge Ram 2500, with two, wide dark stripes on the middle of the hood. The woman also said there was a large piece of plywood in the bed of the truck. 

She said the truck sped out of the parking lot, making a right out of the shopping center at Trader Joe’s and an immediate left into the 8100 block of Lark Brown Road.

The woman told police she did not get the truck’s tag information.

She said the man was white, with a tan, and in his 20s or 30s, about 5-foot-10-inches. He was wearing a camouflaged baseball cap, a brown sweat jacket, a white t-shirt and brown shorts. 

Video footage from Best Buy shows the man following the victim around the store and then out into the parking lot.
