Police say they are still investigating a destructive device made out of a tennis ball and left near a Perry Hall Manor mailbox.
Between 8 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. on Dec. 30, in the 9800 block of Fox Hill Road, a homeowner saw someone pull up to his mailbox on a motorcycle. Moments later, he saw a small explosion, according to Officer Mark Dorsey of the Parkville police precinct. Baltimore County police bomb squad investigators responded and found a tennis ball with aluminium foil and a chemical, Dorsey said.
No one was injured and no serious damage to the area was reported, Dorsey said.
The investigation into the device is ongoing, he said, and it is unknown if the home was specifically targeted.
Multiple bottle bomb incidents have been reported in the Perry Hall area in recent years.
Dorsey urged anyone who sees what they believe may be a destructive device, created using a ball, bottle or other container, to report the object by calling 911 immediately.
