Police Impersonator Robs Woman at Arundel Mills

A woman's purse was stolen near Bed Bath & Beyond, police said.


A woman was robbed at Arundel Mills on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The victim told authorities that a man who identified himself as a police officer approached her outside Bed Bath & Beyond and demanded her purse at approximately 7:27 p.m., according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department (AACPD).

After a physical struggle, the suspect took her purse and left the scene in a vehicle with a woman, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries, but police said she refused medical treatment.

"Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the case," said AACPD. "Based on the investigation, this does not appear to be a random act of violence."

Police said they have identified a suspect and charges are pending.
