Construction Project to Close Sidewalk by Hunter Road

Howard County's Department of Public Works will replace Stipa Court storm drain this fall.

A construction project in an area off Hunt Club Road will begin later this month, according to a statement from Howard County officials.

On Sept. 24, public works employees will begin replacing a storm drainpipe system near Stipa Court, said the statement.

During construction on Stipa Court, the sidewalk on Hunter Road will be closed and signs will be posted to alert pedestrians.

Traffic and parking will not be impacted, according to county officials.

Replacing the pipe and basin within the Elkridge neighborhood is part of a capital project to improve the county's drainage systems, thereby protecting properties and roads from runoff.

Several property owners in the area brought the need for improvement to the county's attention, said Mark Richmond of the county's stormwater management division.

The drainage work on Stipa Court will cost $90,000, said Richmond.

Other areas in Elkridge where the county has already made drainage improvements are Brandon Way, Lark Brown Road and Athol Avenue.

A statement from the Howard County Department of Public Works said that construction on Stipa Court will begin at the end of September and, weather-permitting, be complete by the end of November.
