'If You Cannot Afford Howard County, Feel Free to Move'

Elkridge Patch readers sound off on cost of living driving out families.


While teacher , same-sex and Route 1  were hot topics last week, the article that received the most comments on Elkridge Patch was on the high in Howard County. 

In population, the county lost 8,000 adults ages 30–39 and 800 infants and children, according to the 2010 census, which human services  could be related to the high cost of living in Howard.

A family of four, with two adults, a school-aged child and a preschooler needs to make an annual income of at least $83,557 to live in Howard County, according to the 2012 Self-Sufficiency Standard for Maryland
