Oral Health is on the Lips of Officials in Howard County

State and local governments are meeting in Columbia to establish a statewide oral health plan for the next five years.

At the first-of-its-kind Oral Health Summit, leaders in health care and policymaking have converged at the Columbia Sheraton.

Taking place Thursday and Friday, the conference, sponsored by the Maryland Dental Action Coalition, is where leaders are laying the groundwork for implementing an oral health plan to carry Maryland through 2015.

They are focusing on three key initiatives as they relate to oral health, according to a news release:

  • access to care
  • disease and injury prevention
  • literacy and education

Leaders, including Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD), also said that children's access to care is a critical issue.
