Economic Development Authority CEO Replacement Announced

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman has selected Lawrence F. Twele as the acting President and CEO of the Howard County Economic Development Authority.

Twele will replace Laura Neuman, who left the position last week after being selected as the Anne Arundel County Executive.

Prior to being selected, Twele served as executive vice president in charge of business development at the EDA. Before that he spent six years as the director of the Carroll County Department of Economic Development.

"I am honored by the County Executive's and Board of Director's faith in my ability," said Twele in a statement. "Serving in this capacity will alow me to carry out the economic development mission of the HCEDA, while building on the groundwork laid by Laura Neuman."

Neuman was working on bringing in cyber security and other high-tech business to the area. In January, the a cyber security firm, would be locating its federal business unit headquarters in Columbia, bringing 180 new jobs to the area. Last year, HCEDA worked with ELTA, an Israeli defense manufacturer who brought 100 jobs to Maple Lawn.

Neuman was sworn in as Anne Arundel County Executive on Friday.

Twele also served seven years as the statewide regional office manager for the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. Before that he worked in the private sector as a manager at a manufacturing firm and as a small busines owner.

He has an MBA from Loyola College (Maryland) and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland.

"Larry is a skilled economic development professional and is just the right person to continue the momentum we have built in Howard County," said Ulman in a statement about the appointment.
