Howard County Seeks Veterans and Military Families
The new 13-member commission will work with the county government on issues related to veterans.
Howard County is looking for veterans and military families to shape the discussion around veterans’ issues in the area.
The county council approved creation of the 13-member Commission for Veterans and Military Families last month. It will be composed of veterans and military family members, as well as those who have served as commissioned public health servants or with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
“This bill…is very close to my heart,” Councilman Greg Fox, who introduced the bill, said the night the County Council approved its creation. “I think this is going to be very important to both our veterans and our community as a whole.”

The commission will be a forum to discuss issues that affect veterans and keep county government informed of their concerns. It will also promote programs to highlight and help serve the needs of veterans and their families.
This week, the county announced it is looking for people who are interested in serving two- to five-year terms. Candidates must be Howard County residents and commit to attend quarterly meetings.
