Maryland Governor Coming to Elkridge for Cybersecurity Month Kickoff

Gov. Martin O'Malley will visit CyberCore in Elkridge on Thursday, Oct. 6.

To kick off National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley will attend a ribbon-cutting and roundtable discussion at CyberCore Technologies in Elkridge on Thursday, Oct. 6.

From the company’s logistics center and lab in Meadowridge Business Park, CyberCore provides information technology services to clients like the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). One of its specialties is cybersecurity.

National Cybersecurity Awareness Month began in 2004 to remind people to protect their online networks. Founded by the DoD, DHS, National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the event is recognized every October.

During his Oct. 6 visit to CyberCore, O’Malley will convene industry leaders in Elkridge to discuss the state's role in the cybersecurity field.

“Maryland has a vital network of cybersecurity assets," said O'Malley in a written statement, "from entrepreneurs who develop new cutting-edge technologies to educators who are training the next generation of cyber warriors.

"Together, working with our federal and local partners, we have an opportunity to create jobs and uphold our responsibility to protect and defend the nation’s digital infrastructure," said O'Malley.

More than 250,000 Marylanders work in the state’s technology sector, according to the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.
