The Prince George’s County Chapter of the NAACP is intensifying its call for the City of Laurel to revamp its police department amid of allegations of use of excessive force.

The NAACP contends that the city police department has a history of , particularly in the minority community. Officials with the chapter said they would be filing a complaint with the Department of Justice regarding the incident.

“That police department needs to be totally revamped,” Boss Ross, NAACP chapter president, told Laurel Patch. “They’ve got to change their attitude and come into the 21st Century.”

City officials have not commented on the incident because it is under investigation.

Still, citizens organized a small protest outside police headquarters last month shortly before the city announced that it would remove the officer filmed in the video from patrol.

But Ross said more should be done to address the concerns of the community regarding the incident and others. He said the NAACP has received five official complaints from residents who said they were subject to excessive force from city police.

“That was the tip of the iceberg going on with the Laurel Police Department,” Ross said.

Seriously, if its anything like the nine people that attended the first one, will the Patch comment on it? NINE PEOPLE sat in the lobby of the Police Department, including several NON Laurel Residents, and "complained" about how they have been arrested. 30,000 people live here! If I sat with nine friends in the entrance to Best Buy, and said that all Best Buy employees are Martian aliens here to steal our resources, would you put it front page news?! It's crazy to me that the agenda of Bob Ross and the LBGC is given so much merit by the Patch.

Well it's nice to see that all of us are" Flag as inappropiate". Well none of us are without sin. So who is throwing the first stone. Not me I like my city and I think we all have to work with each other

It's the same as the Sandusky case. Perps are not discovered until "someone" has brings up the crime and gives others the confidence to do so. But since a racial "telling" you want us to shut up. My sister lived in Laurel, it's a great place. But that doesn't mean it's perfect and if a little attention has to be brought to it's door, let it be. We all need to check our "eyesight" when we only see the perp as the criminal and police officer just doing his job.

Please don't come to a verbal fight with useless words vented out of hate. "Enabling bad behavior? The people that come to these forums hide behind "glass houses" for surely if we check their behavior they would fall.
