President Grants Howard County Federal Disaster Relief for Snowstorm

Snow recovery efforts in Baltimore, Howard and Carroll counties qualify for federal aid.

President Barack Obama signed an emergency declaration Thursday that will provide relief for Maryland as a result of the February snowstorm, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported.

As a result, Maryland will be able to obtain federal disaster aid for state and local recovery efforts for emergency work in Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties, FEMA said.

The period for which the aid applies is Feb. 12 to 13.

"Assistance is available to state and eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for snow assistance, for a continuous 48-hour period during or proximate to the incident period in Baltimore, Carroll, and Howard counties," the statement said.

At least 75 percent of the cost for snow removal, de-icing, removing debris from public areas, snow dumping, road sanding and emergency measures to protect lives, public health and public property will be covered by federal dollars, FEMA reported.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis statewide, and FEMA may designate more areas as eligible later based on requests from Maryland and damage assessments, the statement said.

Federal and state officials will hold briefings on how to obtain aid, according to FEMA.

And the taxpayer has to pay extra for federal tax monies to be sent back to Howard County. This is a ripoff, although most people probably think it's "free" money for the local government. Yeah, with MY tax money! Wake up, people!

NA: You're exactly right.....and it's all a part of the grand strategy by Obama and the Democrats.......shower us with taxed money (from us) and printed money (from our kids' future taxes)...all to 'buy' our votes for Democrats every 2 years. It is truly truly sickening. The whole article and Obama's money 2 months late, makes no sense.....except as the vote-buying strategy......and it works. It buys votes from the low-information crowd who keep getting more numerous
