Representatives from nonprofit swim clubs are confident that the County Council will pass legislation giving the clubs property tax credits, according to the Howard County Times.
The bill, introduced by Courtney Watson-Ellicott City/Elkridge/Hanover and co-sponsored by Greg Fox-Fulton, would have originally given swim club-only nonprofits a 100 percent property tax credit.
But the range of different types of pools in the county—Columbia Association pools, a public pool and county-run swim clubs—and the different ways they are assessed is making it difficult to ensure that the bill, if passed, applies fairly to all operations.
Watson said at Tuesday’s council meeting that the council will vote on the swim club bill on July 28 “one way or another" although it was tabled at the July 5 meeting.
Greg Dahle, the vice president of administration at the North Saint John’s Swim and Tennis Club in Ellicott City, said: "I have 100 percent confidence that they will vote positively to enact the legislation.”
