Three-Day Service Planned for William Donald Schaefer

A three-day service beginning Monday includes public viewings in Annapolis and Baltimore City, as well as a motorcade tour.

Former Gov. William Donald Schaefer’s body is scheduled to lie in state at the Maryland State House in downtown Annapolis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

The public is encouraged to park at the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at Gate 5. Shuttle service will be provided to the State House.

Gov. Martin O’Malley and an honor guard from the Maryland National Guard will greet the casket at 9:30 a.m. on State Circle in front of the Maryland Inn, near School Street.

The State House Rotunda will be opened for public viewing at 10 a.m. The public may line up at the front entrance of the State House—opposite Lawyer’s Mall—as early as they like, according to a release from the governor’s office.

Viewers are encouraged to arrive no later than 1 p.m., as the motorcade for Baltimore is scheduled to leave at 2 p.m.

State police said road closures are not anticipated on the motorcade’s journey from Annapolis to Baltimore, though they said drivers should expect possible delays.

The motorcade will travel on Rowe Boulevard, heading west to Route 50, according to a state police release. It will then merge onto northbound Interstate 97 and take Interstate 695 west toward Towson. From the inner loop of I-695, it will travel onto I-95 north and exit at Caton Avenue to begin the tour of Baltimore.

3:09 p.m—Schaefer's childhood home (620 Edgewood St.)
3:22 p.m.—Lexington Market (200 N. Paca St.)
3:32 p.m.—Mt. Vernon Monument 
3:38 p.m.—Basilica of the Assumption (409 Cathedral St.)
3:44 p.m.—Hippodrome Theatre (12 N. Eutaw St.)
3:48 p.m.—Camden Yards
3:58 p.m.—Federal Hill
4:08 p.m.—Schaefer Statue, Inner Harbor (motorcade will pass along Light Street)
4:12 p.m.—National Aquarium (501 E. Pratt St.)
4:18 p.m.—Little Italy (motorcade will travel along Eastern Avenue, onto Broadway)
4:25 p.m.—Fells Point Plaza (foot of Broadway on Thames)
4:33 p.m.—Lloyd Street Synagogues and Jewish Museum (corner of Lloyd and Lombard)
4:38 p.m.—Healthcare for the Homeless (111 Park Ave.)      

Special presentations are planned for several stops along the tour.

Drivers should expect heavy delays and congestion through the city, particularly in the Federal Hill neighborhood.

Schaefer's body will then be transported to Baltimore City Hall, where public viewings are scheduled for Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Old St. Paul’s Church in Baltimore. Interment will be at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Hunt Valley.
