5 Things to Know About the New Elementary School in Elkridge

The principal this week sent out an update to parents about Ducketts Lane Elementary.

Curious to know what Ducketts Lane Elementary will look like for the 600 children expected to attend?

Principal Heidi Balter shared several details on the building in an email to parents this week: 

1) The second level will feature an area where various plants will grow in an atrium type setting, and the gym and cafeteria (located on the first floor) can be seen through a glass-type opening.

2) Grounds will include a pond, plants, outdoor classrooms and an amphitheater.

3) The school is expected to have an enrollment of 600 students, which doesn’t include pre-K.

4) Students at feeder schools will be asked this month to vote for the mascot and school colors as well as share ideas of events they’d like to see at their new school.

5) The tentative schedule for the new school is as follows:

  • 8:35 a.m. First bell (when students can begin to walk in)
  • 8:50 a.m. Second Bell - Announcements
  • 3:15 a.m. Stack and Pack
  • 3:20 a.m. Dismiss walkers
  • 3:25 a.m. Dismiss buses
