Ducketts Lane Elementary School: Getting Ready for Day 1

Dates to know for the first day of school.

Ducketts Lane is getting ready to welcome its first class on August 26.  At a transition meeting held earlier this month, the PTA updated residents on construction progress and other important dates as the first day of school draws near:

Getting ready for school:

  • 5th Grade restaurant night on Wednesday, July 31 at Mama Lucia, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Summer play dates at Rockburn Park: Kindergarten – July 23, 7:00 p.m. –8:00 p.m.; First and Second Grade – July 24th, 7:00P – 8:00P; Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade – July 25, 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Open House – August 23 at 2:00 p.m. All students and families are invited. Students may bring school supplies to leave in their classrooms.
  •  Ribbon Cutting – August 25 at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Getting to school:
  • School starts 30 minutes earlier than many of the feeder schools.
  •  Walkers live within one mile of the school.
  • Crossing guard will be set-up within 15-30 minutes before the school day begins
  • When you are leaving either of the parking lots, turn right onto  Ducketts  Lane
  • Walkers will dismiss first and then buses will dismiss
  • Bus drivers have a list of where they are going – have students get to their bus stop (about 10 minutes) before the designated bus time
  • Bus driver will create a seating chart during the first week
  • On the first day of school, each student will receive a bus number tag with their bus number to help them remember what bus they ride

Visit the Ducketts Lane Elementary School website to watch a video of the school under construction.  Check HCPSS.ORG in August for more information about buses and guidelines for walkers.
