Elkridge PTA Holds Second Annual Elkster 5K

Proceeds supported PTA-sponsored programs for Elkridge students.


On Sunday morning, nearly 150 people turned out for a race at  sponsored by the PTA.

According to organizer Jeanne DeBoy, 142 students, parents and staff participated in the second annual Elkster 5K.

Ryan Stasiowski, 23, placed first with a time of 16 minutes, 13 seconds; and Samantha Cole, 43, came in first among women with a time of 18 minutes, 1 second.

Winners of all kinds abounded at the race, which had a few other competitions going on too:

  • Ms. Ruffing's third grade class, with the most Elkster 5K participants of any class, won a cupcake party.
  • Fifth grader Zach Fletcher won a new bike in the raffle drawing for Elkridge students.
  • Second-grade teacher Ms. Goldberg won the Charm City Run gift card and two dozen chocolate chip toffee nut cookies in the drawing for teachers.

The Elkridge Elementary PTA said the following organizations helped make the event possible: sponsors JTJ Engineering Inc. of Linthicum; Bakery Express, which donated bagels; the , which volunteered services in the event of an emergency; and Running Maryland, which timed and scored the event.

In addition, DeBoy said: "We thank all of our runners and parent volunteers!"
