Plans Come Together for New Elkridge Elementary School

The Ducketts Lane Elementary school principal sent out the following updates to parents on Tuesday.

Parent volunteers and administrators are developing a range of plans for the new elementary school in Elkridge, including how to determine the school mascot and what the school’s schedule will be in the fall.

The Ducketts Lane Elementary School principal, Heidi Balter, said in an email sent to parents Tuesday that a committee of parents working on transition plans for the new school met on April 9.

According to meeting minutes, administrators will start meeting with students in feeder schools this month to talk about their new school.

The school is expected to have an enrollment of 600 students, which doesn’t include pre-K.

At the meetings, students will be asked to vote for the mascot and school colors as well as share ideas of events they’d like to see at their new school.

Those meetings are as scheduled:

  • Waterloo ES, Monday, April 22 at 9:30 a.m.
  • Elkridge ES, Monday, April 22 at 3:15 p.m.
  • Rockburn ES, Tuesday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Bellows Spring ES, Wednesday, April 24 at 10:45 a.m.

Also, a tentative schedule has been set for the new school, according to meeting minutes:

  • 8:35 a.m. First bell (when students can begin to walk in)
  • 8:50 a.m. Second Bell - Announcements
  • 3:15 a.m. Stack and Pack
  • 3:20 a.m. Dismiss walkers
  • 3:25 a.m. Dismiss buses
