Prom Costs on Rise: How Much are You Spending?
High schools in Howard County have proms scheduled through April and May.
A lot goes into having the perfect prom.
There’s the dress, nails, hair and shoes. Plus there is the limo, dinner beforehand, the actual prom ticket and any after-prom activities. All of these activities are adding up and causing the average cost of prom to skyrocket.
According to a recent report published on Huffington Post, the average prom cost in 2013 is $1,139, which is a 5 percent increase from last year.

And it seems like the spending for the special senior night begins long before the actual dance.
According to an article on MSN Money, two of the main culprits for the price increase is the dress and shoes. Dresses today are more elaborate and many girls buy two pairs of shoes—one to wear to prom and one to dance in.

Recently, Ellicott City Patch blogger Shweta Maruvada posted about the costs of prom, citing the various costs for attending prom.
“The cost of a memory is priceless, but how much are you willing to pay?” she wrote. “Five hundred dollars for a two-hour car rental? One hundred and fifty dollars for a onetime wear dress or tuxedo? Twenty-five for a corsage? The list becomes endless with prices skyrocketing when it comes to prom."
With prom season in swing, do you find that the cost of the event is increasing? Is spending $1,139 for a senior memory worth it? Tell us in the comments.
