Rockburn Elementary Says No To Halloween This Year

In this announcement sent to parents, administrators cited an "increasing number of students who do not celebrate Halloween" and the "distraction it causes to the school day" as factors in the decision.

This is a reprint from the Oct. 3 edition of the Rockburn Ranger Report, a weekly bulletin by school administrators.

This year, Rockburn students will not be celebrating Halloween as a school-wide event. It is time for a change. This decision was made collaboratively. The discussion included the time it takes to change into costumes, the challenge of managing many students in the bathrooms at the same time, the increasing number of students who do not celebrate Halloween, and the distraction it causes to the school day.

Some teams will be planning a snack and craft or fall activities. Room parents and volunteers may be contacted to assist, if needed.

Several other county schools have moved away from a Halloween celebration at school.  While we appreciate the tradition that this has been for families and students at , we hope you will support the decision that we feel is in the best interest of our school. Other fun events have been planned throughout the year.
