Two-Hour Delay for Schools, Freezing Rain Advisory Issued

Schools will open two hours later on Friday as a mix of rain and sleet fall in the county.

All Howard County public schools will open 2 hours late on Friday amid a freezing rain advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

The freezing rain advisory is in effect until 9 a.m., after which temperatures are predicted to rise above freezing. The weather service urged caution during the morning commute.

The school system sent a message at 5:15 a.m. Friday, saying, "Morning pre-kindergarten and RECC programs are canceled. All morning programs, sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in Howard County public schools, will be delayed 2 hours."
