Does Howard County Need an Archery Range?

Weigh in on the project at a hearing or online.

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is proposing making changes at Alpha Ridge Park that could send arrows flying.

Currently, the lower inline hockey rink at the park is underutilized, according to the parks department, which is proposing converting the space into a fenced-in, semipermanent target archery range.

"Target archery participation has grown considerably in Howard County over the past three years..." according to a proposal by the department.

With an additional archery range area, the department could introduce new target archery programs and potentially offer public drop-in range times.

There would not be any permanent structural modifications at the Marriottsville park, and the upper hockey rink would not be affected, according to the proposal.

The archery range could be installed by the fall, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The public hearing on the archery range proposal will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Recreation and Parks Headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road in Columbia. Register to speak or submit comments online here.
