Elkridge Native Selected for Sports Hall of Fame

Dave Grabowski will be inducted into Howard County's Community Hall of Fame in October.

 

Since 2005, the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks has been recognizing community members who have made what it calls "substantial contributions" to recreational sports through a Community Hall of Fame at the department's headquarters.

The department recently announced its 2012 inductees, which include Elkridge resident Dave Grabowski.

Here is how the Department of Recreation and Parks described the Elkridge native:

"Dave Grabowski has been a fixture at as a player, organizer and advocate for more than three decades. In 1978, he helped form the Elkridge Adult Athletic Association (EAAA) to organize softball leagues at Rockburn and served as Commissioner until 2005. He also coached, umpired and served as an administrator for the Elkridge Youth Organization (EYO); and, as president, grew the organization by more than 30 percent and adopted new approaches to recruiting and training parent coaches. In 2001, Dave was appointed to the Howard County Recreation and Parks Advisory Board and still serves today. While he was chair, the Board approved such projects as Blandair and Meadowbrook Park."

Grabowski is also on the board of the , which held a lecture this spring on the tradition of Elkridge baseball.

In addition to six others who were nominated and selected by the Hall of Fame committee, Grabowski will be inducted into the hall of fame officially on Oct. 9 in a ceremony called "Celebration of Sports" at Turf Valley in Ellicott City.
