Howard County Native First in Boston Marathon Wheelchair Division (Update)

Tatyana McFadden wins her first Boston Marathon.

Howard County native Tatyana McFadden keeps coming in first.

The wheelchair racer came in first place in the Boston Marathon's wheelchair division - her first time entering the race.

"It was a really tough race," the Clarksville native told WBZ-TV’s Jonathan Elias afterwards. "I let my training and the support from the crowd carry me home."

McFadden brought home four medals from the London 2012 Paralypic games: three gold medals and one bronze. Then she went on to place first in the Chicago Marathon women's wheelchair race, the Chicago Tribune reported

"I raced my hardest today," McFadden told Elias. "Today it worked in my favor."

Next up for McFadden: The London Marathon on Sun., April 21.

After McFadden's win, dozens of people were injured by two explosions near the Boston marathon finish line, Back Bay Patch reports.

Patch reported multiple incidents of victims with missing limbs and other serious injuries. 

McFadden was not injured, according to Beth Bourgeois, spokesperson for the U.S. Paralympics.

"The whole US Paralympic Team," Bourgeois said, is safe.
