Winning Weekend for Elkridge Sports

Football and cheer teams edged out competitors from Maryland to Pennsylvania.

As the Ravens flew home from Ohio after beating the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Elkridge teams chalked up wins of their own.

Two Elkridge Hurricanes teams advance in state competition

Two teams from the Elkridge Hurricanes competed in Maryland's youth football semifinals on Dec. 3 .

The Hurricanes' 11-13-year-old National division defeated the Pikesville Wildcats, 16-12.

The 11–13-year-old Federal division of the 'Canes also brought home a win, against the North Harford Hawks, 28-8.

The 'Canes National team will play the Columbia Ravens at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney on Dec. 11.

The Federal team will play the Damascas Cougars on Sunday at Havre de Grace High School on Dec. 11.

Both games will be rematches of this year's Mid Maryland National Division Superbowl, according to Hurricanes Coach Joel Vittori.

Maryland Tsunami cheers its way to world competition

Cheer teams took their moves from the in Elkridge to Philadelphia for the Spirit National Championships over the weekend.

The Marlins' , placed second and received a bid to the world competition in 2012. Last year, Tsunami placed at the world competition and for overcoming challenges like an injury and power outage while onstage.

Fellow Marlins team Mist—consisting mostly of first-time cheerleaders—placed first in its division at the Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 competition, according to Maryland Marlins founder Terri Curley.
