Traffic Alert: Use Alternate Routes by Arundel Mills Through Weekend

Officials anticipate "high volume of traffic" along MD 100 and MD 295 due to casino opening.

The opening of Maryland Live! casino at Arundel Mills will create a "high volume of traffic along MD 100 and MD 295 through this weekend," according to the State Highway Administration (SHA).

at Arundel Mills Boulevard are still under construction and will be completed early next week, according to the SHA.

Until then, SHA advises using these routes:

  • If you're heading east-west on MD 100 between MD 295 and I-95, consider taking I-695 or MD 32.
  • On north-south routes, use Ridge Road or Dorsey Road.
  • Along MD 100, stay to the left; casino-bound motorists will exit to the right.

As someone who lives in one of communities within 5to 10 minutes of this mess - has the Maryland State Highway Administration or the Cordish Group figured out how the people who live in this area are going to get around? Maybe these 2 groups are going to pool their financial resources and pay for those of us NOT interested in gambling to go on mini-vacations away from the area!

Anyone in Howard County did not have a vote whether the Casino was going to be allowed at the Mall even though we are affected by this. The concern is the traffic going through local neighborhoods. Hopefully people who are not familiar with the area will only seek highways. Who knows the deal that the state made with Cordish Group. I am sure that some politicans benefited because our local communities are not.

Actually, it wasn't a deal (unless maybe with Leopold, the AA County Executive), it was a big "blunder". The legislation was written to allow a casino to be built at the Laurel Park race track but Cordish found a loophole in the law that would allow them to build a casino at Arundel Mills instead. Simultaneously, the owners of Laurel Park failed to come up with the $1 million dollar deposit in their casino bid. Cordish was smart enough to get their foot in the door and had the financial wherewithal to beat the anti-casino referendum. So basically, it started out as a huge mistake, and may still end up as a huge mistake, in time...

Prediction: Cordish after opening Baltimore casino will have so much cash he will buy a Senate seat or go for the Governorship in 2014
