Weekend Forecast: Beautiful Outside

It's not often we see a forecast like this.

Get thee outside this weekend!

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a nearly flawless few days at the beach and inland, with sunny skies, mild temperatures and not a drop of rain in sight.

In Ocean City and Virginia Beach, expect temperatures in the mid-70s all weekend long with breezy winds that may gust at times up to 30 mph. NWS is also forecasting mostly clear skies at night, with lows in the low 60s.

Temperatures will be in the low 70s at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware Friday, climbing to the mid-to-high 70s Saturday, then dropping back down to about 70 on Sunday.  Winds will be a little milder, but still breezy, according to NWS—up to about 22 mph. At night, clear skies and temperatures in the low 60s.

Of course, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Here’s the catch: NWS is warning beach-goers of powerful rip currents at least through tonight. If you plan on getting in the water, pay attention to lifeguards and the posted signs. Rip currents—powerful currents that flow away from the shore – are most frequently found at low spots, near structures such as piers and in breaks in a sandbar.

If you find yourself caught up in a rip current, NWS suggests keeping calm and trying to swim parallel to the shore. Only once you’re away from the current should you swim back to shore.

To avoid such hazards altogether, just stay local!

In Howard County, temperatures will climb to the high 70s, reaching nearly 80 degrees on Sunday (don't forget! That's Father’s Day). Winds will be calmer here than on the coast and according to NWS, temperatures will drop to the high 50s during the evenings and skies will remain mostly clear.
