Iron Girl Brings Athletes, Closed Roads

Runners, bikers and swimmers will descend on Howard County this weekend.

The Iron Girls are coming to town. That means running, biking, swimming and … traffic. The triathlon will bring thousands of people to the Centennial Park area.

Expect major delays on Maryland Route 108 on Sun., August 18 for Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon. More than 2,000 people are expected to participate.

From about 7 – 10:30 a.m., Route 108 westbound will be closed between Ten Mills Road and Centennial Lane. The southbound side of Centennial Lane will be closed from the park entrance to Route 108.

There will also be police along the roads to temporarily divert drivers or close the following roads along the bike course:

  • Maryland Route 108
  • Homewood Road
  • Folly Quarter Road
  • Carroll Mill Road
  • Triadelphia Road
  • Frederick Road
  • Centennial Lane

Police advise drivers to allow extra time for travel or plan alternate routes.
