The linebacker is in his 17th season with the Ravens.
Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis will retire at the end of the team's run in the current postseason. Lewis made the announcement while speaking to the media early Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens' Twitter feed said he told the team, "This will be my last ride." Lewis, the MVP of the Ravens' last Super Bowl in 2001, will have spent his entire 17-season career with Baltimore. Lewis, a first-round pick for the Ravens in 1996 (their first season in Baltimore) has been selected for 13 Pro Bowls and has three times been named the AFC defensive player of the year, in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Share your thoughts with fellow Patch readers after offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was fired by the Ravens Monday morning.
The weather Monday was befitting a morning after a Ravens loss to the Redskins. But for some Baltimore football fans, it was a beautiful day, as the oft-blamed Cam Cameron was relieved of his duties as the Ravens' offensive coordinator. Quarterbacks coach and former Colts head coach Jim Caldwell will take over play-calling duties. Cameron was the lightning rod for a Ravens fan base expectant of improvement on the offensive side of the ball, where the franchise invested high draft picks and significant contracts to improve a decade-long weakness. Cameron was fired a day after the Ravens fumbled away a late lead to the Redskins, who walked off with an overtime field goal. It was the Ravens' second straight loss—and a 4th-and-29 conversion in…

Ray Rice took a screen pass 30 yards to save the game for the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
It looked like the gig was up for the Ravens in San Diego on Sunday afternoon, but then something incredible happened. Down 13 to 10, the Ravens were at their own 37-yard-line facing 4th and 29 against the Chargers with less than two minutes left in the game when Joe Flacco dumped off a short screen pass to Ray Rice. As Rice scurried to get to the first down, it looked like he was in trouble as Chargers safety Eric Weddle had position on him in front of the first down marker. But out of nowhere came Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin to deliver a punishing block on Weddle to give Rice just enough space to fall forward for the first down. Chargers fans may be upset by the spot of the ball, but the officials reviewed it and said Rice got enough…

Man collected $4,600 to deliver pro players to school assemblies, now gets eight years in prison.
An Annapolis man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for charging Howard County schools and PTAs to bring Ravens football players to their assemblies and then not delivering, ABC 2 News reports. Prosecutors said Joseph Gill, 53, of Anne Arundel County, took $4,600 from five schools and PTA groups in Howard County last year. According to reports, Gill promised Ravens players would attend the school anti-bullying assemblies. After he cashed the checks, however, Gill said that the players couldn’t make it after all. According to court records, Gill admitted to running similar scams at four schools in Baltimore County, collecting $1,200 there, and 17 schools in Anne Arundel County, where he collected nearly $14,000. The backdrop of his message confirms what we all know -- Ravens coach John Harbaugh is a football man -- but what he had to say is all about honoring members of the military on this Memorial Day. "They rush to serve and protect on a moment's notice," Harbaugh said, "so that we can enjoy the freedoms that this country has to offer." Do you have a message for military personnel?
