Elkridge School Bus Accident Delays Students

A school bus clipped a car while transporting 12 students to Elkridge Elementary on Thursday, school officials said.

A school bus on its way to Elkridge Elementary Thursday morning clipped a car at the intersection of Main Street and Levering Avenue around 8:55 a.m., according to Diane Mumford, the school's principal. Mumford wrote in a letter to parents that the 12 students on bus 497 were not injured. The assistant principal, Tony Esposito, went to the scene to make sure the students were safe and warm as police worked to document the accident, according to Mumford. After the officer completed a report, the students were taken to school on the same bus while another bus was sent to complete bus 497's route, Mumford wrote. "All our honeybuns are safe," wrote Mumford. "Thank Goodness!" Sign up for the Elkridge Patch newsletter here and follow us on …

"We get 40-45 cars a day in the last two weeks of the year," said Marty Schwartz, president of Vehicles For Change (5230 Washington Blvd.), one of dozens of local charities vying for vehicle donations as the Dec. 31 tax deadline approaches. Soliciting vehicle donations has evolved into a major source of funding for nonprofits of many stripes, from public radio stations to Purple Heart. Usually, these organizations immediately auction cars they receive for whatever price the wholesale market will command.
